How to create an online marketplace app like eBay
-
Launching Swipecart takes you to the dashboard. The first step is to click on "Layouts" on its side menu.
-
The "Layouts" tab will give you an option to create a layout for your eBay app. To create a new layout, click on the “Create Layout” button.
-
Clicking on “Create Layout” will open a popup. We have to name the layout.
-
Since we are creating an app like eBay, let's name the layout "eBay". Click on the "Create" button to start.
-
Swipecart gives you two options. One is to select from a range of ready-to-use default layouts. The other option is to choose a blank layout.
-
Let’s go ahead and create a Blank Layout for now.
-
You’ll be taken to your layout dashboard with the default tab as “Theme Settings”. The basic function of “Theme Settings” is to customize the look of the app. It has multiple options to set branding elements for your app. This is a necessity whenever you want to customize the look of your app according to your brand.
-
Find the "App Bar Settings" option in the left menu list of the Theme Settings tab. This option is to customize the look of the app bar or the header.
-
The "App Bar Settings" allows you to change the app bar color and font color. Enable/disable icons for notification, cart, favorite, and search tool on the app bar. It's time to upload the logo. Click on "Select Logo/Title", select the logo option from the drop-down list, and upload the logo image from your file. Align the logo on the app bar and save the changes.
-
To customize the look of the layout, opt for "Theme Style Settings". Here, Swipecart gives you options to change the app color, font color, font style, and font scale. Also, you upload the app loader here.
Note: The size and dimensions of the loader are mentioned in this section. Ensure you upload it as per the specifications.
-
Watch the screen recording below to see how to change the font style, font color, and app background color, and also to upload the app loader GIF onto the app layout.
-
Similarly, explore other sections in "Theme Settings" like bottom bar settings and side menu settings to customize the look of your app. Your app will look as in the image below.
-
Next, we move on to customize the home screen of the app. To edit the home page layout, click on the “Home” tab next to "Theme Settings" on the top menu. Your screen will have an app layout with a blank home screen.
-
Let's now start populating the home screen with the search bar, banners, collection lists, and more.
-
On the right of your screen, you'll find a drop-down text box. Click on it to view the list. Select "Search" from the list. Immediately, you'll see the search bar widget below the drop-down box. Drag and drop the Search bar widget on the home screen layout.
-
You can edit the style of the Search bar such as radius and padding. Hover your mouse pointer over the search bar widget to open the “Edit Style” option. A popup opens to enable you to make changes to the search bar. Adjust the parameter for the box radius and padding. Enable/disable the display of search or the microphone icon on the search bar. Save the changes and click on “Update” to update the app layout.
-
Just below the search bar, let's place a product collection grid. Select “Collection Grid” from the drop-down menu list. Different styles of collection grids are displayed below the drop-down box. We have selected a 3x3 round collection grid. Drag and release this widget onto the app's home screen.
-
Hover your mouse pointer over the collection grid widget. You'll spot an "Add/Edit Content” option. Clicking on it will open a popup screen. Name the collection and upload product collection images to the grid. Save the changes.
-
Swipecart gives you the option to stylize the collection grid. To do this, again hover the mouse pointer over the widget. Select the "Edit Style" option displayed at the top-right of the widget. A popup screen will open that contains options to format the collection grid style. You can adjust the container padding and radius, and add background color or image. Save the changes.
-
Let's add a single banner just below the collection grid. Select "Single Banner” from the drop-down box. You have banners of various aspect ratio sizes displayed below the box. Select one, drag it into the home screen layout, and drop it there.
-
To upload the banner, hover the mouse pointer over the dropped widget to sight the "Add/Edit Content" option. Click on it to open a popup. Here, name the banner, upload an image, and save the changes.
-
Again, to style the banner, hover over the widget until you spot the "Edit Style" option. Click on it and here, you can make changes to the banner container such as radius, padding, background color or image, and so on. Don't forget to save the changes and update the app layout.
-
Repeat the same process to add two or three single banners to the home screen. This is to lure the customers through offers or guide them to popular pages on the app.
-
Next, let's add a product list in sliding format. For this, select the "Product Slider” option from the drop-down list. Again, you'll be shown multiple slider options. Select the slider style you want and drag it to the home screen.
-
Clicking on “Add/Edit Content” will open up a popup. Name the slider and upload relevant images you want to display on it. Save the changes.
-
To style the slider widget, hover the mouse pointer on the widget until you get to see the "Edit Style" option. Click on it to open a popup. On this, you can modify the container padding and other details. Also, you can decide if you want the product price, Add to Cart, title, or Favorite icons to be displayed or not on the product list. The product display format on the carousel can also be styled. Check out all the options available, do the relevant changes, and save them.
How to add a new page on the app's home screen
-
We'll learn how to add a page or another tab to the home screen. For this, click on "Add Page" which you see on the left of the app's home screen layout.
-
Clicking on “Add Page” will open a popup.
-
Enter a name for the page. Let's name it "Deals". Now, click on the "Submit" button.
Note: Keep the "Add As A New Page In Home" option enabled to add a new page to your home screen.
-
This action redirects you to the "Deals" page layout. You can go to either the Home or Deals tabs on the app home screen by clicking on these options just below the "Add Page" button.
-
Next, let's start adding products to the "Deals" page. For this, keep the Deals page selected. Now, select "Product Grid” from the drop-down list. A number of product grid widgets will be displayed just below the drop-down box. Scroll through them and select one. Drag and drop it to the Deals page layout. It is similar to how you designed the home screen.
-
Once you have dropped the product grid widget on the Deals screen, hover the mouse pointer over it until you sight the "Add/Edit Content” option. Clicking on it will open a popup. Give a name to the product grid and start uploading images to it.
-
To format the product grid, hover over it and click on the "Edit Style" option. A popup screen will open giving you various options to format the grid. Modify the container padding, radius, and other details. Enable or disable the product title, price, Add to Cart, and Favorites icon if you want them to be visible/invisible below the product image. Give the "See All" option to customers to redirect them to the product collection page from the Deals page. Save the changes and update the app's Deals page layout.
-
As you can see in the image below, the app's home screen has two pages (tabs), Home (default) and Deals. Add banners, product collection, grids, and others to both the pages to complete designing the app.
